A key objective is promoting safety in maternity care..
Anesthesia is a medical specialty in its own right, anesthesia allows for the safe performance of a surgical procedure or a painful examination. It eliminates pain while preserving the balance of the organism. There are several types of anesthesia offered depending on the patient’s state of health and the surgical procedure performed: general anesthesia, epidural, spinal anesthesia, loco-regional, and postoperative analgesia.
The Obstetrics Anesthesia Department organizes the performance of anesthesia (artificial sleep technique) during interventions relating to Gynecology-Obstetrics.
The pre-anesthetic consultation
The pre-anesthetic consultation is a legal obligation. When you have to undergo an operation requiring anesthesia, you will be received a few days before, by appointment, for a pre-anesthetic consultation by an anesthesiologist-resuscitator.
During this consultation, the anesthetist-resuscitator performs an in-depth medical examination. He prescribes, if necessary, additional examinations. After this visit, a mode of anesthesia, defined according to your state of health and the surgical procedure, will be explained to you. When a blood transfusion is considered, the doctor gives you all the necessary information. You will be informed of the advantages, risks, limits and possible failures of the mode of anesthesia chosen, which may lead to the performance of another type of anesthesia or the postponement of the intervention.
Intervention
During the intervention in the operating room, a nurse anesthetist and an anesthetist-resuscitator take care of you. Be aware that the anesthesiologist-resuscitator is not necessarily the one you met in the pre-anesthetic consultation.
After the procedure
The anesthesia team is also at your side after the operation. This post-operative phase requires specific monitoring provided, in the post-operative room, by competent medical and paramedical personnel. It will ensure, in the best conditions, your return to your original department
